2nd --Service Project 2007
|
S & S Tours and the Tewecado Trust invite you to join us
on our Copper Canyon service project trip. September 2007 was our
second Service Project Tour. The Santa Maria de Guadalupe Tewecado
(Tewecado/ Tehuecado in Tarahumara means boarding school for girls in
Tarahumara) is a free Catholic primary school run by the nuns of the
Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Poor.
At any given time there are 75 female
Tarahumara students between the ages of 6-12 living on the premises.
These Indian girls also receive free room
and board and learn Spanish.
Children from the village of Cerocahui are
permitted to attend the day school if their parents value religious
instruction along with the normal primary subjects taught.
I (Sue) have been visiting and helping the school for 18 years. I have a great affection for the sisters and their admirable work with the children. I am always impressed by how they train the girls to sew, clean, help with meals and care for each other. The place is always clean and orderly no matter when I surprise them with a visit. It will be rewarding for those who are able to be available for this trip. For more information visit www.tewecado.org or email at tewecado@comcast.net
