THE "GRINGO" AND THE LITTLE DOG
"When I went to the village of Creel to sell
my bear grass baskets I saw an old White Man being pulled by a little dog around
the square. At first I counted how many circles it pulled the old man
around and then I finally lost count. People said a "Gringo" was driving
the little dog-and that he even spoke to the dog in English, telling him when
and where to turn and when to stop. These people are very strange!"
Life Through the Eye of the Tarahumara- Romayne Wheeler
Get on board for your train journey through the remote Copper Canyon system, the world-famous 8th wonder of the world. This mammoth labyrinth of seven indescribably beautiful major canyons qualifies for national park & world heritage status. Wider, greener and a mile deeper at one point than the Grand Canyon in Arizona, this Copper Canyon system should be a "must see" on everyone's travel list.
Imagine yourself riding through this immense series of canyons & ridges that encompass 25,000 square miles of rugged wilderness territory. Rivers born in the high pine forests have carved a 10,000-mile maze through spectacular steep-walled gorges into the volcanic rock of the Copper Canyon Sierra Madre Occidental Mountain Range. With temperatures ranging from 55-77 degrees almost every month of the year is desirable weather in the Copper Canyon. We utilize the award winning Balderrama Hotels in the prime locations of the canyon system.
Wind your way up from the Pacific Ocean through the most exciting part of the railroad, up into the heart of this scenic splendor, as you ride the historic Copper Canyon Chihuahua al Pacífico Railroad. Built over a 90-year period, this railroad is an engineering masterpiece. The Readers' Digest has called it "the most dramatic train ride in the western hemisphere."
Visit the cave homes & ranchos of the Tarahumara Indians who have made the Copper Canyon country their home for three centuries. These proud people have retained their unique culture far better than most other native North Americans. S & S Tours works hard to ensure your visits with the Tarahumaras are sensitive, appropriate & positive for all concerned.
Would you believe the Copper Canyon group tour packages also include all meals, train station transfers, tours, hotels & tips (except naturalist guides)? Itineraries may be subject to slight changes on these tours.
